CATrain is not just a simulator, but a full featured model train controller.
In my opinion, compare CATrain with "Train Simulator Games" is not fair, because the main intention of CATrain is to design and control "real" model railroad layouts.
So what you call "unimpressive graphics" are not intended to simulate the real world, but are only a very functional graphic control panel for a highly sophisticated PC model railroad controller, which is by the way one of the few (and probably the best and less expensive) systems that control the trains without the expensive use of difficult to install (even impossible in Märklin Z Miniclub) locomotive (engine) decoders.
